The ever Bury Clubman stepped in to the breach last season and turned 6 into 7 seasons. This shows the dedication Chris has for Bury to be successful on and off pitch, regardless of the impact it has on him personally.

Chris became President in 2017, but his involvement and that of the Berry family has spanned over 20 years. That ‘formal’ involvement has taken many forms - initially as a youth coach and then as Youth Chairman, finishing of course as an Executive Committee member and as our President.

In his time as President, he has impeccably guided and lead the club through some of its most challenging but also successful years. All the while doing so with kindness, generosity, a smile & a devout love of Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club at the heart of all that he did.

It is a testament to the nature, breadth and depth of Chris’ involvement to suggest, that one could ask almost every member of our club about Chris – from the miniest mini to the oldest alickadoo – and be given a different vision, anecdote or tale. For some, he may be the chap who sits on the shoulders of an elf at the Boxing Day Bash, for others a familiar face amidst a sea of home supporters at away fixtures or with 3 jugs of Greene King in hand entering an exhausted changing room. He’s been a Potwash, the mastermind of many a risqué pre-match joke and perhaps the most popular version of all – the man with the sausage rolls.

One thing is for sure however, Chris’ involvement has been plentiful and impactful and indeed, you would be hard pressed to find someone that disagrees with the sentiments above – no matter which version they have encountered.

I am sure you will all join in offering the utmost of thanks to Chris for his monumental efforts over the past 7 years.
