Round 16 | 2024 / 2025

Will Affleck20 Dec 2024 - 13:21

Here’s your preview of the weekend’s action, from Club Media Officer, Charlie Woodbridge.

Following a brilliant weekend at the club filled with Christmas cheer, and celebration at the annual carol singing evening, we have the final matches of the year this weekend.

We only have two matches across the entire club this weekend, with both being hosted at The Haberden. However, head down to The Haberden on boxing day for the annual Boxing-day Bash, as the over 30s take on the under 30s.

There are no fixtures among the age grade sides as they can now rest, relax and recuperate ready for an exciting 2025. However, the boys’ U13-U16 sides will be making up the ball boy team for the Men’s 1st XV.

Thank you to all the coaches, players, parents and Bury rugby fans for supporting these sections during this year, we look forward to next year!

The Men’s 1st XV look to continue their brilliant form at The Haberden after beating high-flying Tonbridge then edging Old Albanian in a close encounter. They host Henley Hawks in a middle of the table clash, with Henley on a good run of form currently.

Jacob Ford has named a largely similar side with Ewan Guy coming in at flanker after a brilliant game against Old Albanian, and the return of ‘The Horse’ Euan Rees on the wing.

The Men’s 2nd XV look to bounce back and finish the year strongly after a frustrating loss against Ely last weekend. They face Saffron Walden at home in their final game of the year.

AJ Morgan has named a young side, littered with Bury youth players, as the next wave of Colts have been promoted to the senior side looking to make their mark in senior rugby.

That rounds up the games for the weekend, so we will use this space to thank all the sponsors of each section that isn’t playing, as we round up an incredible year at Bury St Edmunds.

A special thanks to all the Women’s 1st XV sponsors Fairfield Money Ltd, Logan Capital Advisors, Merrifields, Circle Health Group, Greene & Greene, My Whey Supplements, Rowan Hazell Homes, Greens Removals and Eastgate Financial Ltd.

A special thanks to all the Men’s 3rd XV sponsors, Sliderobes, Gadd Brothers Trees and Landscapes, OX-C Machine Tool Services, Chapmans Hair, MGS and Energise Personal Fitness.

A special thanks to all the Men’s 4th XV sponsors, Leon Brown, OJ Neil Contractors, BC Landscapes, Robinson Arnold Limited and ECO Cooling.

On behalf of everyone here at Bury St Edmunds, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who supports this club in any way they can. We have had a brilliant year as a club, and we look forward to next year.

So, one final message for the Bury Rugby family, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
