Here’s your preview of the weekend’s action, from Club media officer, Charlie Woodbridge.
Following a quiet weekend of games for Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, we have an exciting week of fixtures ahead.
We have only one senior fixture taking place at The Haberden this weekend. Alongside this, we have two incredible matches, with the Women’s 1st XV travelling to Sutton Coldfield as they look to finish the season strongly and fight for the top of the league. Meanwhile, the Colts will host Newmarket in the Eastern Counties Cup.
Our boys’ U13s (x2), U14s, U15s, and U16s all have exciting fixtures this weekend. One of the U13 sides faces Ipswich, while the rest of our boys’ youth teams take on Norwich Crusaders. Similarly, it’s a busy weekend for our girls’ youth squads, with the U12s and U14s facing Hertford and West Walsham, respectively.
It’s a huge weekend for the Bury St Edmunds Colts as they face Newmarket RUFC in the pool stages of the Colts Eastern Counties Cup at The Haberden.
Coach Richard Barnes has named a strong Colts side, featuring several players who have already appeared in some of our men’s teams this season. These include Captain Callum Peck, Henry Mason, Jack Rawlings, and Myles Bailey, to name a few. So, head down to The Haberden for a day of Colts action, Six Nations rugby, and our new pizza menu!

The Men’s 1st XV have a rest weekend following their narrow loss against a very impressive Worthing side, in a game that could have gone either way.
The Women’s 1st XV are back in action this weekend after a rest week. They travel to Sutton Coldfield, looking to continue their fine form and finish the season strongly in their battle for the league title against Old Albanian Saints.
Our women’s team have been incredibly impressive all season, rarely letting their discipline slip, putting in strong performances, and playing the brilliant running rugby that has become the norm for our outstanding Bury St Edmunds Women.
Head Coach Liam Leeson has named a largely unchanged squad from their last outing, with only three changes. Isabelle Burr moves back into the 12 shirt after a strong stint covering at number 8 for the injured Lauren Howard, who returns to the starting lineup. Jasmine Simmons also comes into the back row.
The Men’s 2nd XV can also enjoy a rest weekend after their brilliant run of form in recent fixtures, as they continue their climb away from the relegation zone.
It’s a busy weekend for our social sides, as the Men’s 3rd XV travel to Halstead, while our 4th XV host Harwich & Dovercourt. We wish them the best of luck on behalf of the entire Bury Rugby family.
It’s a quieter weekend for our minis section, with most teams training. However, our U11s do have a fixture against Stowmarket.
Once again, we have a full weekend of rugby ahead. As always, you can find full squad announcements on the club’s social media channels.
